Rawson-Saunders offers students a wide range of after school activities. Offerings for Fall 2009 include: Destination ImagiNationDestination Imagination is an international program for students in grades kindergarten through college. Up to seven team members work together to solve their challenge. Team member must write a script, make all costumes, backdrops and props needed. They also learn to work together to solve mini-challenges in 3-5 minutes. They learn to budget time and money. Because team members cannot be replaced after work has begun on the challenge, prospective team members may try the program for three weeks before committing to join. Running TeamThe after school running group trains to run long distances. They meet once a week for a neighborhood run. At the end of the semester, the team will enter a local race and run for a great cause! Cheerleading/Spirit TeamThis class builds spirit, endurance, and school pride. Participants learn basic cheerleading positions, jumps, and stunts. Body FlowBody Flow is a combination of Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates set to music. Just Imagine!Students work with amazing costumes, hilarious props, and whimsical scenery as they become the directors, producers, and stars of their own original shows! Action-packed and extremely fun, this program focuses on all aspects of acting, from improvisational to live theatre production. RoboticsIn Robotics, students explore engineering, computer programming, and problem solving using the Lego Mindstorms system. No experience is necessary; all that is required is a curious and creative mind. In May, students participate in Mindstorms Mania, a celebration of Robotics programs in Central Texas schools. The Robotics program has been developed for students through a joint program sponsored by Lego, National Instruments, the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, and Tufts University. Homework Help and Study SkillsStudents meet four days a week to work on short and long-term class assignments and learn strategies for organizing time and completing projects. Project EarthThe Project Earth students explores the environment around our school and ways that students can make a difference. Example projects may include improving the school's recycling program, letter writing to elected officials, or making a movie about "being green." |
